2007 and so many changes have taken place over the last year. Surrey Ambulance Service has ceased to exists. The old service has been
 amalgamated with  Kent, West Sussex and East Sussex to form the new South Eastern Coastal Ambulance Service So once again we see the end of another era and, for SARA, some uncertainty. Sadly too we have lost one of our most stalwart supporters, Lady Helen Gardiner, who was there at the formation of SARA and has given us enormous support and encouragement throughout the last 14 years.
Fortunately we still have a very strong and active Committee who work very hard for the association.  It will be due to their efforts and your support that SARA will survive this upheaval. 2008 will, I am sure, herald a new start.  A change of venue for the Annual Re-union and, hopefully, a continuation of the display teams.
At the moment we are not sure if there will be financial support for the display team 
but, if this is not forthcoming  from the new Service then I feel that this is short sighted.  The display equipment advertises the Service and carries to the public the history of the Ambulance Service and how it has improved since its inception in 1948.
The public always show great interest in the display items and ask many questions about the old and new service.   Now that we have the amalgamation of four services this messages can be taken to many more people with the history of those services included.
This facility can and must be considered a window through which the public can see the Ambulance Service and, can be used to gain support from the public for the service as a whole.
SARA is very strong and I am sure that with or without support we will survive and continue to look after the welfare of our members.
