  CONTROL

1948    At the onset of the service stations received and acted on calls  independently, it was quickly  realised this was both costly and inefficient, so five stations were selected to collect calls and distribute them, even so it still left a lot to be desired, and it was not until the advent of radio did control come into its own

1954    A  radio  link gets underway at last, starting in  A  Division from a  control  at  New  Malden,  followed   B Division at St Hellier, extending  to other areas with control rooms at Chertsey, Guildford, and Redhill, but it took until 1956 to finally complete

1959    “A” Control at New  Malden and  'B' Control at St Hellier,   combine at Malden to form Metropolitan Control

1965    Met Control  taken over by London Ambulance.  All other controls combined at Banstead to form a central control

1969    Moved into new complex at Banstead,  official opening
